When you should be embarassed to go the dentist….

When you should be embarassed to go the dentist….

Never. Not one time.

You aren’t the only one who is embarrassed to go to the dentist. 20% of people avoid the dentist because of fear of judgment. The reality is, avoiding your dentist (regular cleanings and checkups) could leave you with infection and PAIN.

Reasons people avoid the dentist.

Reason#1- My dentist will judge me

TRUTH: No one is perfect, not even the dentist. Smoker, soda drinker, candy habits, skipping brushing/flossing, whatever it is, we are just here to help. The more your dentist knows about you, the more they can help you to prevent future problems. In reality, all we want is to help you have a clean mouth and to avoid pain.

Reason#2- I will have the worst teeth she's seen

TRUTH: I see 10-12 patients a day. People come in every day with cavities, infected teeth, cracked teeth, and much more. It’s part of the job! Your teeth are just like other patients that come to see me.

Reason#3- I don't want to be shamed or lectured

TRUTH: We want to keep you coming back to keep you healthy. Of course, we will give you advice on what you can do to improve your oral hygiene, but we understand there are financial and time constraints when it comes to seeing the dentist regularly.

Here are some ways to make your appointments less nerve-racking.

1. Tell us why you are embarrassed. The more we know about you and your concerns, the better we can help. Being upfront from the beginning helps us, help you.

2. Think of how going to the dentist can benefit you. Your mouth is important when it comes to the health of your entire body. Although there are much better places to be than the dental office, you are on the way to creating a healthy environment for your mouth and body. By visiting the dentist, you can prevent further destruction and possibly avoid infection and pain.

Benefits: During our examination, the doctor will complete an oral cancer screening. Oral cancer is on the rise, at your dental appointment your doctor can screen for signs/symptoms.

Prevention: Although you may not experience any symptoms, your dentist can prevent future issues. This includes detecting decay early, covering teeth with fractures that put your tooth at risk for fracture, detecting periodontal disease (gum disease), which is linked to heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and many more system diseases and possibly tooth loss.

Step one is just getting to your appointment. After that, each appointment becomes easier and easier.

Enrich your Smile. Enrich your life.
